From 19–20 May 2025, insurance professionals, medical experts, and scientific innovators came together at LUCID 2025 - one of the most respected conferences on life underwriting, claims, insurance medicine, and research. Hosted at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham, the two-day event covered a spectrum of topics from AI and climate change to cancer recovery and gene-based risk.

Representing Innovision IP, our Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer Dr Gary Green was invited to speak on the evolving role of advanced brain imaging in the assessment of head injuries - part of a session that sparked meaningful discussion around innovation, evidence, and impact.

Our contribution to the conversation

As part of Session 14: Novel techniques in the assessment of head injuries using brain imaging, Dr Green introduced the audience to the power of diffusion-weighted imaging, myelin mapping, and cortical thickness analysis—advanced techniques that go far beyond standard MRI.

He explained how Innovision IP’s proprietary technology detects subtle but clinically significant microstructural changes in the brain, which can:

  • reveal injuries that conventional imaging misses;

  • assist in earlier, more accurate diagnoses;

  • support robust evidence in medico-legal and insurance contexts.

Dr Green’s lecture was particularly relevant to LUCID’s interdisciplinary audience, offering a bridge between neuroscience and underwriting—a much-needed convergence in today’s risk landscape.

Key insights from across the conference

LUCID 2025 offered a rich and ambitious programme. Some standout sessions included:

  • Dr Abhishek Joshi’s exploration of AI in healthcare ("Tech Will Save Us"), pushing the boundaries of diagnostic support systems;

  • Dr David Nicholl’s nuanced take on the implications of the Leadbeater Bill for assisted dying in the UK;

  • Professor Tony Young’s showcase of NHS-led innovation and entrepreneurial ventures reshaping the medical landscape.

By contributing our knowledge of neuro-imaging to this forum, Innovision IP helped connect the dots between emerging medical science and the practicalities of underwriting complex conditions like brain injury.

Why our presence mattered

Brain injuries present challenges not just for patients and clinicians, but also for insurers and legal professionals tasked with evaluating outcomes, prognoses and claims. Our participation at LUCID 2025 reinforced three things:

  1. Advanced imaging is no longer futuristic—it’s essential.

  2. Early, evidence-based detection benefits all stakeholders.

  3. Collaboration between science and insurance is key to better decisions.

We were proud to be part of a conference where innovation meets accountability—and where deep expertise, like Dr Green’s, can illuminate the path forward.
